South Carolina's Best-Kept Real Estate Secret

Are you looking for a new home in a family friendly town, but you don't want to be trapped in the middle of nowhere, away from the culture of the big city lifestyle? Maybe you're in the market for an affordable second home, somewhere your family can relax and enjoy the summer, while never even approaching the word "bored." Do you think this scenario sounds too good to be true? Anderson, South Carolina begs to differ.

Located in the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson combines Statistical Area, which has almost 1.3 million inhabitants, Anderson City has about 27,00 residents while the county has over 147,00. It's a small town with enough size to contain its own bustling, historic, downtown area (complete with family-and-adult friendly activities like it's Thursday night block parties), and a great blend of big box and mom-and-pop stores, but it is within shouting distance of larger metropolitan areas.

If you still think it sounds too good to be true, consider that's it's nationally ranked in quality of life, being recognized as an All-American City in 2000. Additionally, it's known as the "Friendliest City in South Carolina," and once you visit you'll understand why. It's education system ranks very high, with schools well dispersed throughout the city and it also boasts an excellent private university, Anderson University, as well as a technical colledge and it is just southeast of prestigious Clemson University.

To add to all of Anderson's great features, it is located close to Lake Hartwell, a man-made reservoir containing almost 56,00 acres of water and a shoreline of 962 miles. Lake Hartwell is the ideal place if you're an avid fisher, or if you enjoy camping, biking, swimming, or just enjoy running along it's 7.6 mile trail. Additionally, Lake Hartwell is a hotbed of watersports, from Jet-Skiing, to waterskiing, and from tubing to wakeboarding. (Don't worry-it's a great place for more leisurely paced recreational boaters as well.) It's also known as a great place for spotting wildlife, with over 250 documented species of birds and over 40  of mammals making their home in the area.

Here's the best part with a town like Anderson in the midst of everything, and with so much happening inside of it, you'd think that real estate prices would be off the charts. WIth the recent housing come-back, Anderson's housing market has yet to catch up with national prices-it's single-family homes are very reasonably priced, and many times are much less than the national average, Just like with the rest of the town, you'll be very pleasantly surprised by the buyers market in Anderson. So whether you're a nature-lover, a history buff, a watersports fanatic, or jsut someone who wants a great place to raise a family, Anderson, South Carolina is the place for you.
